Remarci în legătură cu câteva concepte ale lui Jean Scot Erigène. Ioan Scottus Eriugena apare ca un gânditor izolat în obscurul veac al IX-lea occidental. Sinteza sa teologică (Periphyseon) dezvoltă o schemă tradiţională (exitus-reditus), dar din care se detaşeazã câteva concepte teologice fecunde: teofania, îndumnezeirea (formulă de import din patristica greacă), autocunoaşterea divină. Lectura operei sale se poate conjuga fericit cu tema actuală a dialogului între Orientul şi Occidentul creştin.
